In this 1.5 hour class, you will create a punch needle piece of art for your wall, while learning the basic fundamentals of this traditional technique. Kit is included and no experience is required!
Each student will receive a kit that consists of a 11”x11” wood frame with stretched cloth, the #10 Oxford Punch Needle, a selection of rug yarn and step-by-step instructions.
Oakland artist, Caroline Powell, is the owner and designer behind Punch Color Studio, an online shop selling handmade punch needle art and home goods. What started out as a pastime to help relieve stress and anxiety, turned into this small but growing business. Caroline has a background in textiles from the Savannah College of Art & Design and currently works as a web designer for Gap Inc. Caroline finds inspiration in nature and lets the process of punch needling inform her designs. She considers punch needling a very ever-changing form of art due to its forgiving nature. She enjoys using bold colors and abstract shapes. Caroline hopes to inspire others to explore their creativity through this and other fiber arts.
